Long Weekend Scenes
I had a lovely long weekend, dedicated to some household projects and immense cleaning. With the boy in Vegas for a bachelor party, our roommate visiting friends in Houston, and everyone else I know “down the Cape”, it also included some forced very much needed “me” time. If you’re not familiar, “me” time means: walks to get XL iced coffees with extra...

I'm glad everyone had a lovely long weekend...
Really, I am. Especially all my coworkers with their rosy cheeks and bushy tails (metaphorically speaking…no pets here today, for once) But guys? I AM SORE AS SHIT from cleaning all weekend. Apparently moving furniture and 20 loads of laundry up and down 3 flights of stairs is exhausting. Also, so is scrubbing walls.  Next time we are hiring a cleaning lady. Dusting ceilings is not a fun...

Cleaning the absolute crap out of my place
…we have lived here a year and it definitely shows. The boy is in Vegas for a bachelor party, and the roommate is in Houston. Boys are the worst horders ever. You really need the manual for your iHome, still in plastic wrap, from 2 years ago? Everything must go.

Its the song from the new IE commercials. Whilst I hate IE, must applaud their marketing department for wisely choosing this track. I just used Shazam to discover Too Close by Alex Clare. http://shz.am/t53346516

How Sweet: Michigan Acorns
Every summer, Matt’s family spends a week on Lake Michigan. We’re talking not only immediate family— his twin brother and his mom and his nieces and whatnot— but also extended family; his mom is one of eight siblings, so the amount of cousins he has between the ages of twenty and forty are beyond count, at least for me. In true midwest fashion, they are the most...

Scenes from a Late Spring Weekend
Last Thursday morning, Matt and I are walking to the T— a touch behind schedule, as usual, and neither too talkative until the last sip of coffee is gone from our respective to-go cups— and he asks if we have any obligations for the weekend. I am, of course, our calendar-keeper; I don’t expect a guy to remember things like impending weddings, tier-two holidays, or other events...

Must go buy things to bring to a friend's BBQ:
Have decided this consists of: House-made kielbasa from the Polish deli down the street Green grapes, white chocolate and peanuts; which all get combined into the most delicious little thing you can think of. Will share later. All the Magic Hat Elder Betty I can get my grubby little hands on. I think I’m a good guest.

Delightfully Veg Dinner - Kale Chips, Quinoa &...
Last night, after cleaning the holy hell out of our kitchen (we are not grown ups.) I realized I was starving, and we hadn’t a protein in sight. I quickly remembered a year ago, around this time, when I was thinking about starting to blog about food, I made these delicious quinoa patties that I had seen on Seven Spoons. I was thoroughly impressed with not only the patties but myself; the...

Scenes from a Weekend on a Race Track
Some things you should probably know about me: 1. I could eat pasta, with only butter and salt, probably every day. 2. I was the tomboyiest-tomboy for the first ten or so years of my life. 3. I am a product of the Porsche Sport Driving School in Alabama. …Wait,  what? That’s right. Just butter and salt. Oh. The Porsche thing? Well, it was a special event for clients of my...

Weekend Scenes from Brooklyn
During the wedding we attended in Connecticut last Saturday, after a touch of arm twisting and a lot of gin, we agreed to visit our friend Alex in Brooklyn the following weekend. When we returned to Boston after the wedding, my friend who resides in Manhattan was in town, and she insisted a NYC weekend would be perfect, as well. In the meantime, Matt reached out to his cousin, who lives in...

Know what makes for an AWESOME start
…to not only the day, but the week? Walking the .9 mile to the T and realizing I forgot my wallet at home and my options are: A: Walk all the way back to my apartment, get my wallet and do it again B: Beg someone for use of their Charlie Card like some sort of subway prostitute C: Jump the turnstiles like some sort of hoodlum D: Call my boyfriend sobbing and ask him to come get me and...

I did three whole laps in our jalopy race car...
Before I hit some comes, was flagged to come off the track, and had a slight panic attack. I then respectfully told my coworkers I am done for the day. I am not the speed racer I thought I was at Porsche Sport Driving School, thats for sure!

A First: Pork Belly
Finally back with a “recipe” (we use this term pretty fast and loose around here, as I am certainly no chef) and it is for something I had never prepared before! While I’ve had pork belly a few times at restaurants (most recently, confit’d in a taco at Five Horses Tavern in Davis Sq), I had never come across it at the grocery and, consequently, had never attempted to cook...
